Matthew Robert Smith was born on 28 October 1982 in , Northampton, Northamptonshire, UKEdit
He attended Northampton School For Boys where he later became Head Boy.Edit
As a teenager he was a talented footballer and considered turning professional, he played for Northampton Town Under 11 and 12s, Nottingham Forest Under 12,13,14s and Leicester City Under 15 and 16s but had to give it up, following a back injury, and turned to acting instead.Edit
When Matt was younger he was a member of the National Youth Theatre staring in plays such as Murder In The Cathedral a review at the time in fact points out that Matt was very good in it here.Edit
He studied Drama and Creative Writing at the Norwich University while still at University he starred in Fresh Kills.Edit
Since then Matt has been in History Boys , On The Shore Of The Wide World the trio of plays Burn / Citizenship / Chatroom. He then went in to star in That Face, opposite Lindsay Duncan. His performance gained an Evening Standard Best Newcomer nomination. From there he went on to star with Christian Slater in Swimming with Sharks.Edit
Matt TV roles have been in The Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, Party Animals, The Street, Moses Jones and in 2010 Matt will be the 11th Doctor for Doctor WhoEdit
Matt likes photography poetry and loves music and can play piano. One of his favourite bands are Radiohead.Edit
